 PREVIEW

,For our twentieth anniversary  festival we have decided not to increase the prices  from 2009  as we hope that given the same level of support as we had last time hopefully  we can still break even .

We have also decided to add a concession for  teenagers 16 /17 as most  are still in full time education and this making it easier for  families  with older teenagers to pay for .    Note all 16/17  yearolds must be accompanied  [part of a family unit]

We are now pretty well settled in at the Barnard Castle site which we believe is an ideal venue , with everything contained in one large  field.

As usual   this years festival will consist of live music only [ no backing tracks or drum machines]  as we believe that is what a music festival should be about with as much variation of the different styles of country and roots music available ensuring a full bodied programme throughout the event.

This year we will once again have some of the tried and tested British country music bands along with some exiting new bands who are sure to make a big impact on the country music scene.

The festival takes place in a giant  Marquee which also includes the bar and a large dance floor. There is a childrens play area provided in an ajacent small Marquee to keep the young ones occupied. Trade stands and food outlets are enclosed in a fenced arena around the main Marquee keeping everything together and also providing space for other activities to take place from time to time such as western re-enactments etc.

We have a seperate camping area for the Westeners  which has adopted the name of Dodge City. Also an area closest to the Marquee is designated for the Disabled .

.

With the event as a whole we try to cater for listeners, dancers,  and westeners  alike.

We look forward to meeting old friends again this year and hopefully intruduce some new ones to the G.N.C.W.F. experience

                       WHO WE ARE

The Great North Country & Western festival was started in 1991 at Witton Castle Nr Bishop Auckland in County Durham

After 15 years runing at Witton Castle we relocated to another venue and the event is now held at Barford Meadow near Barnard Castle

The G. N. F. is a not for profit organisation and is run by John & Margie Tallon & family along with a lot of friends who volunteer their services every year, without whom the festival would not run.

In the photo gallery and video clips, some of which go back to the Witton years you will get an idea of the layout and the good times we have had at the festival over the years.

Our motto is frienship and unity in country music and we try to cater for all tastes in country music.

The one thing we do insist upon is that all performances are live without the use of backing tracks or drum machines.
